The Aggies at Gamecocks game marks one of the most highly anticipated games on opening night. The Gamecocks went 11-2 overall and 6-2 in the SEC last season, defeating Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day. Texas A&M finished 9-4 and 4-4 in the SEC, with Aggie legend Johnny Manziel leaving College Station with a win over Duke in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
South Carolina has not lost a season opener in 14 years, as the Gamecocks are usually coached up by Steve Spurrier and ready to get started in a big way. Also, they have the nation's longest home winning streak at 18 games, and will be ready to defend their house. Senior quarterback Dylan Thompson will start at quarterback, marking only his 4th start in his career. He saw some action backing up Connor Shaw, who now plays for the Cleveland Browns, along with former Texas A&M qb Manziel. No doubt, Thompson will be leaning on sophomore running back Mike Davis who made a name for himself after rushing for 1,183 yards and 11 touchdowns. South Carolina lost defensive end number one draft pick Jadeveon Clowney to the NFL, but many believe defensive back Brison Williams will bring the big hits this season.
The Aggies are starting on new ground this year, as this will mark the first time in school history they have met a conference opponent on the road in a school opener. The game will also be the Aggies' first Thursday night matchup since Kevin Sumlin took over as coach in 2012.
Sophomore Kenny Hill takes over at quarterback this year, and many A&M fans are waiting to see how he will replace Johnny Football. Texas A&M is 10-2 in games away from Kyle Field under Sumlin.
Prediction: It will be a good game, but in the end the Gamecocks winning streak will survive. South Carolina 28 - Texas A&M 21
