Can you name a Tight End for the New York Giants?
Chances are, if you are not a superfan, you probably had to ask your phone for help. It's been a minute since the NY Giants had a memorable player at TE, but that could change, in large part because of the Giants newly hired Offensive Coordinator, Ben Mcadoo.
"If Ben (McAdoo) came calling, I guess I'd go running," Jermichael Finley, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, told Giants 101 recently. "He's a great coach and I would love to rekindle that relationship and get it back on. He's like a father figure to me since I came into the league."
McAdoo was the Tight Ends and Quarterbacks Coach in Green Bay before signing on with New York, and he and Finley became close working together there. The Packers' selection of Cal tight end Richard Rodgers in the 2014 NFL draft makes a return for Finley less likely than before, while New York general manager Jerry Reese neglected tight end until adding undrafted USC prospect Xavier Grimble. According to other scuttlebutt, Finley would of had a deal with the Seattle Seahawks at the beginning of the summer, but he failed a physical. Reportedly his health issues are no longer a problem, and he has great potential working well in New York.
The tight end position has been a bit of a dead zone over the last couple of years with Kevin Boss, Jake Ballard, Martellus Bennett and the latest, Brandon Myers taking up rank there. It's a position that could be used more effectively if the right player was there, and could prove to be a great target for Eli Manning. Finley is the type of player that could bring new life to that position for the Giants. Finley has expressed a desire to work with Eli Manning in the past, and if he can perform in New York like he did in Green Bay, He would be an amazing pick up that might help get the G-men back to championship form.
Over a career that began in 2008, the 27 year old Texas grad has amassed 2,785 yards, 20 TDs, and he averages 12.5 yards per catch.
