A high-level LG executive said his company will not be making the Nexus 6, while new rumors suggest that Google is replacing the entire Nexus line with Android Silver.
Last Wednesday, LG's Communications Director Ken Hong revealed in an interview with Dutch site Draadbreuk that Google has not contacted LG concerning plans to manufacture the fabled Nexus 6.
"That can mean two things," Hong explained. "Either I got ignored, or simply won't be making [the Nexus 6]."
LG have previously manufactured the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 on Google's behalf. Both mobile devices were well-received by consumers, but sales were severely hampered by limited supply and high prices.
"Google determines how many phones are to be made, and we do that," Hong said bluntly. "If it is stated that LG produces too few Nexus phone, then the media is simply incorrect. We get asked, [then] we deliver."
Elsewhere, Google is rumored to be ending the Nexus line entirely in favor of developing the Android Silver program.
Last month, @evleaks posted two tweets that suggested Google may be dropping the Nexus 6, and that the Android Silver would be ready by February 2015.
Android Silver is not a specific smartphone line, but rather an entirely new system built upon a broad range of mobile devices created by different manufacturers that may include Samsung, LG, and HTC amongst others.
Naturally, Google's own mobile device lineup will be incorporated into this new system.
This represents the tech giant's latest attempt at unifying Android-related technology around a standardized system, and consolidating its control over Android development in the foreseeable future.
Under the current system, the major Android smartphone manufacturers tend to implement their own unique user-interface, browser, and custom apps. Still, Google may continue keeping the 'Nexus' name alive with its tablet series -- with the Nexus 8 rumored to be next in line.
