The Rangers are one game away from eliminating the Canadiens and advancing to the Stanley Cup Final. Montreal will attempt to hold their fort by winning tonight's game and one more in order to tie the series for a final meeting in Game 7. However, the chances of doing that is slim, since losing their star goaltender Carey Price, the Canadiens have had difficulties stopping the Rangers from scoring.
In tonight's game, the Rangers will be visiting Montreal to play at Bell Centre, where Canadien's fans will be make taunts and cheers against their interest. It is not Rangers first time playing there and they have defeated the Canadiens on their home ice, so the chances are that Rangers won't miss their chance today to go for the elimination.
In Game 3, Canadiens have limited Rangers' winning streak and won with 3-2 score. New York's No. 1 center, Derek Stepan, sustained a broken jaw from a hit by Montreal forward Brandon Prust, who received a two-game suspension for the play, according to NHL.com.
"We've done nothing yet and we keep reminding ourselves, we understand the fourth game is the toughest one to win and we know we're going to have to bring our best and more," Rangers forward Martin St. Louis said Monday.
In Game 1, the Canadiens defense toppled after Price, their starting goaltender and team MVP, was injured from a collision with Rangers forward Chris Kreider. As a result, the Rangers took advantage and put in 7 goals against 2 by Montreal at the beginning of the Eastern Conference Finals.
And Price's replacement will be either Budaj, 31, or No. 1 AHL netminder, Dustin Tokarski, 24. According to New York Daily News, Budaj shut out the Rangers with 27 saves last October, but he surrendered three goals on eight shots in Game 2's third period.
The Canadiens came off an emotional second-round series win against the Presidents' Trophy-winning Boston Bruins in a 4-3 series. While they were not prepared for such a turn out from Game 1, the players have expressed their determination to not end up in a 2-0 hole.
"I think it's easier to bounce back after a loss like that than a heartbreaker," forward Max Pacioretty said, according to NHL.com. "So, obviously, you don't want to throw a game like that, but we know we're still a confident group. We've got to put that one behind us and not look back.
The Rangers, on the other hand, are still riding the momentum of overcoming a 3-1 deficit in their Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. They will attempt to pull away from the Canadiens in Game 4.
