'Homeland' creators will begin filming Season Four in South Africa, starting in June and ending in November, 2014.
Though its premiere date has not been confirmed, Season Four will likely air on the Showtime network sometime this coming fall. Specifics remain unknown, but it is clear that 'Homeland' creators will place more emphasis on the Middle East in Season Four.
Whereas Season One revolved around the post-911 American home front, Season Two began featuring settings in the Middle East -- namely Beirut, Lebanon. By Season Three, the story began shifting to more exotic locales such as Venezuela and Iran. Season Four will put more emphasis on the Middle East.
Unfortunately for fans, Season Four will not see the resurrection of tragic-hero Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), after dying in an ill-fated mission in Tehran at the conclusion of Season Three. Earlier this month, the show's executive producer Alex Gansa had joked, "Well, truthfully we've been trying to get rid of the guy since season 1."
In the series, Brody was a United States marine who is captured by terrorists during the Iraq War. Through torture and manipulation, Brody is later 'turned' and secretly becomes a sleeper agent working for the terrorists. Eventually, Brody becomes a CIA double-agent and begins working against his terrorist captors. Tragically, Brody dies after a completing an assassination operation in Iran, but is denied honorable recognition by the CIA.
Season Four will see the return of bipolar CIA field agent Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), Brody's love interest and honey trap. After Brody is killed off in Season Three, Carrie is promoted to Istanbul station chief. It is also revealed that Carrie is pregnant and carrying Brody's child.
Other characters returning to the series including Carrie's erstwhile mentor Saul Berson (Mandy Patinkin) and fellow CIA-operative Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend).
