Floyd Mayweather's fight tomorrow night will be his 46th pro fight. The welterweight champion is undefeated with a record of 46 wins, zero defeats or draws, and 26 Knocks-Outs. Maidana has 35 wins, 3 losses and 31 Kos.
Mayweather is currently the world's most-paid athlete in 2013. In his two fights last year - both dominant wins - he earned $73.5 million in minimum purses, $32 million against Robert Guerrero in May and $41.5 million against Canelo Alvarez in September, according to ESPN.
For Saturday's fight, he is guaranteed a minimum reward of $32 million for his welterweight unification fight with Maidana, according to contract figures released on Wednesday by the Nevada State Athlete Commission.
In an interview with ESPN, Mayweather said Maidana may be fight with the second highest KO ratio that he's ever fight, and he won't underestimate or overlook his opponent.
Just last month, Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao fought Tim Bradley in a rematch and came out as the winner. Boxing fans were eager to see if a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather could be arranged as each boxer are nearing the end of their careers according to the number of fights each boxers expressed before retirement.
In 2010, ESPN reported that eight-division world champion Pacquiao signed a contract to fight Mayweather on May 13, 2010, but Pacquiao denied the report and saying more details need to be negotiated. The Mayweather-Pacquiao fight at that time was expected to be the largest-gross fight in history, in which total revenue could reach $300 million. But negotiations failed over Mayweather's random controversial request of Olympic-style drug testing.
Mayweather said he is content with where he is at right now in his career. As for fighting Pacquiao, he said Pacquiao at one time had thought he was on the same level as him, but Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley "showed him that he wasn't on the same level as me.
"Through the years as everybody was talking about Pacquiao and Mayweather, all I kept doing was winning, winning, winning, no draws, no loss, just kept winning, and I'm here to stay," he said.
Pacquiao, who earned $62 million in fights and endorsements in 2011, ranked second on the Forbes richest athletes list behind Mayweather.
Mayweather is a five-division world champion, having won eight world titles and the lineal championship in three different weight classes. While he holds numerous world championship titles, Mayweather served 90 days in jail for battery upon his ex-girlfriend in September 2010. According to Daily Mail, the battery was for hair-pulling, arm-twisting attack on his ex-lover Josie Harris as two of their three children watched.
Mayweather was raised in a drug-ridden family, where his mother was addicted to drugs and his father hustled at night. But boxing blood ran in his family, where his father and his uncle were both professional boxers.
In 2009, his fight with Marquez marked only the fifth time in boxing history that a non-heavy weight sold more than 1 million pay-per-view households, with HBO generating a revenue of approximately $52 million. Four of the other fights featured Oscar De La Hoya as the main event, making this fight the one of two events where a non-heavyweight fight sold over 1 million PPVs without Oscar De La Hoya. The other fight was Manny Pacquiao versus Miguel Cotto, which sold 1.25 million PPVs.
