After defeating the Blue Jackets 3-1 in Game 5, the Penguins can advance to the Eastern Conference Second Round with a win today. The players are aware that they will be playing in a hostile environment, where they lost 4-3 in overtime. If Pittsburgh wins, they will face the winner of the series between New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.
Blue Jackets are attempting to win a Stanley Cup Playoff series for the first time in franchise history, and they will attempt to force Game 7 in Pittsburgh.
"We've got to make it tough on Fleury," said Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky, according to NHL.com. "That's doesn't mean running him over and taking penalties. It's going hard and making sure it's a difficult night for him, a difficult night for their defenseman going back and chasing pucks all night.
We definitely need to be more physical and make them pay the price. That's goes back to our forecheck. Our forecheck wasn't hard enough [Saturday]. We weren't physical. We didn't create enough turnovers."
In Game 4, the Penguins lost in overtime, where Blue Jackets won through another multi-goal lead. The two teams are now tied 2-2 in the Best-of-7 series. Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury allowed two goals, which have been avoidable. He will attempt to answer criticisms through his performance in Game 5.
Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky gave his team new hope by tying Game 4 with 24 seconds remaining.
In Game 3, the Blue Jackets lost to the Penguins despite having the home-court advantage. The Penguins scored three goals in the third period to take the lead after trailing 3-1. The Penguins defeated the Blue Jackets by 4-3.
In Game 1, Blue Jackets led 3-1 in the second period, but gave up two quick goals, ending up with a 4-3 loss to Penguins. Forward Derek MacKenzie scored a goal and Brandon Dubinsky assisted on Jack Johnson's goal.
In Game 2, Blue Jackets rallied from a 3-1 deficit on Saturday to beat the Penguins 4-3 in overtime. The Penguins scored at a low rate of 1-for-8.
