The Wild and Avalanche are now tied at 2-2, and the Avalanche is looking forward to win tonight's game with home-court advantage. The Wild have only nine goals in four games, but their puck-possession game has limited the Avalanche to just 12 shots on goal in Game 4, which were a franchise playoff record for the Wild (fewest allowed).
It had been that the Wild were having to fight to get just one win up until Game 3, but the tide has changed, and the Avalanche are now counting on their players, whom many of them are playing their first playoff road games.
Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov allowed three goals on 78 shots in two losses in Minnesota. Meanwhile, Wild's goaltender had a shutout streak of 124:36, and his .40 goals against average and .979 save percentage are the best among NHL goaltenders, according to NHL.com.
The Wild worked their heart out and got a win in Game 3 over the Avalanche, who had a two game lead in the best-of-7 series. Tonight, Minnesota will attempt to even out the series at their home-court.
Colorado's defenseman Tyson Barrie was hit by Minnesota forward Matt Cooke in Game 3. Barrie was injured and sidelined and Cooke is suspended for seven games by the NHL. But prior to that, the Avalanche have partially buried the Wild after Saturday's night 4-2 win in Game 2 in Denver. Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog, Paul Stastny and Nathan MacKinnon have together caused the most damage.
Wild's coach Mike Yeo will use the players in Game 3 that will best be able to slow down the Avalanche's trio before it is too late. The players charged with this task are veteran wing Matt Cooke and third line as well as Mikko Koivu.
In Game 1 and 2, MacKinnon scored a total of seven points. He has matched the NHL mark for the most in a player's first two career Stanley Cup Playoff games, according to NHL.com. Meanwhile, Wild forward Charlie Coyle has a goal in each game.
