Despite having a fully-loaded team, the Blackhawks still were not able to capture a win against the Blues, which have several key players out by injuries. In Game 2, the defending Stanley Cup champion lost 3-4 in overtime, and the ruffles between the two team resulted in an additional St. Louis' injury. Their captain David Backes was injured by Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook with an illegal hit.

In Game 1 of this Western Conference First Round series, Alexander Steen's goal 26 seconds into the third overtime for the Blues edged Chicago Blackhawks into a 4-3 victory. The playoff opening was definitely an entertainment thriller.

In Game 2, the Blackhawks will have their star player right wing Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews back from injuries that sidelined them towards the end of the regular season. Meanwhile, the Blues also will have their captain David Backes and forward Vladimir Tarasenko back from injuries.

While the Blackhawks are known for making a comeback in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Game 3 win would be critical for their hope to defend their title.
