Sadie Robertson and designer Sherri Hill made an appearance on Fox & Friends over the weekend for the USO "Operation: That's My Dress!" - a one-day event in Manhattan, New York where "Duck Dynasty" stars Sadie and Korie Robertson will help assist military teens pick out a free prom dress from Sherri Hill's collections. Fox News reports that April is considered the Month of the Military Child, and is also right in time for prom dress shopping.
Teenage girls from military families came to Manhattan this weekend for a day of pampering. Forty-five Miss USA and Miss Teen USA contestants, Sadie and Korie Robertson, and Sherri Hill helped the girls pick out their prom dresses, and USO volunteers did makeup and hair while the contestants modeled Sherri Hill's collections in a fashion show.
Hill, whose family members have actively served in the military, says that the USO's cause is near to her heart. She has donated more than $1 million worth of prom dresses to benefit military families. "There are so many military families that don't have opportunities to do what most of our families are used to doing," Hill said - "It's an opportunity that the USO has provided for us to help those girls have that moment."
When asked about the USO volunteer effort, sixteen-year-old Sadie said she was happy to get to pamper military families for a day - "We're just creating a good moment for these kids ... They do so much for us, and it's the least we can do for them." Her father Willie and uncle Jep Robertson also served on the USO Chairman's Holiday Tour last year, encouraging military members in four different countries.
"We know that prom can be expensive," says Korie Robertson - "This is just something special, and a way for us to honor them and let them know that we love them and we care about them, and we appreciate the sacrifices that their families make for our country."
From retro dresses to big ball gowns, Hill says they wanted to try to accommodate a wide variety of styles and tastes at the event. Sadie has pre-approved Hill's Sadie Robertson Live Original line, known to have more modest choices for teens. When asked whether it is has been hard for Sadie to get a date to prom, the teenager politely chuckled - "I get like a hundred prom requests on Twitter every day - it's quite hilarious," she says.
