Update: Team Canada wins the women's Ice Hockey gold medal at Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 with a final score of 3-2 over USA.
The USA Olympic Women's Ice Hockey team will face off its long time rivals Canada in the 2014 gold medal final Thursday, Feb 20 at 12 p.m. ET/ 9 a.m. PT. NBC will broadcast the game live on TV.
Canada pulled off a 3-1 victory over Switzerland in their semifinal Monday while the US team won their semifinal match handily, downing Sweden 6-1 to reach the final.
"We feel like we've prepared all year for this game," said Natalie Spooner, who scored twice Monday against Switzerland to put Canada in the Olympic final.
The heated rivalry between America and Canada on the international circuit dates back to the birth of women's hockey in international competition. The U.S. captured the first ever gold medal at the 1998 Winter Games but Canada has taken the gold in the past three Olympics (2002, 2006, 2010), while the Americans won two silvers and a broze.
Canada is the reigning Olympic gold medalist but the U.S. are the reigning world champions and have beaten Canada four straight times in the last seven exhibition, including the 3-2 victory in Ottawa, Ontario, last year.
"We're going for a different color this time around," Julie Chu of the US said. Chu, the oldest player on the team, has been apart of those three Olympic teams.
