2014 Rose Parade, the 125th New Year's Day celebration event in Pasadena, Calif., features 46 float entries that were designed following this year's theme "Dreams Come True." It will be broadcasted live on television and online in the U.S. beginning at 8 a.m. PST/11 a.m. ET on Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Information on how to watch the parade free online can be found below.
The 46 float entries will be judged by float judges Cheryl Cecchetto, James Folsom and Rene van Rems, and winners will be announced by Tournament of Roses president Scott Jenkins. Twenty four of the 46 floral masterpieces will receive awards in a variety of categories and specifications, including creative design, floral craftsmanship, artistic merit, computerized animation, thematic interpretation, floral and color presentation and dramatic impact.
"Rose Parade floats are designed, built and decorated by teams who put heart and soul into each unique presentation," said Richard De Jesu, chairman of Tournament's Judging Committee, according to Pasadena Tournament of Roses news. "Our esteemed panel of judges looks at each float through a creative lens and identifies those elements that are most entertaining to viewers. All three judges bring a diverse set of skills that complement each other's knowledge in their profession."
In addition, the selection and appearance of Rose Queen and Royal Courts in the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game are yet another cherished tradition.
Ana Marie Acosta, 17, Polytechnic school, is the 96th Rose Queen, and the Rose Princesses are Sarah Elizabeth Hansen, 19, Pasadena City College; Kayla Diyana Johnson Granberry; 17, Pasadena High School; Jamie Ann Kwong, 17, La Salle High School; Katherine Diane Lipp, 17, La Canada High School; Elyssia Hadi Widjaja, 17, San Marino High School; and Elizabeth Katie Woolf, 17, La Canada High School.
This year, over 900 Pasadena-area young women participated in the Royal Court tryout, according to Tournament of Roses. The chosen Royal Court has made over 100 community and media appearances since October, culminating with the Rose Parade presented by Honda and Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO.
