Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2013 Highlights
The Original Story
The 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City will begin November 28 at 9 a.m. and will last for three hours. 3.5 million people are expected to flock to New York to join the parade.
NBC will broadcast the parade live on Thanksgiving Day at 9 a.m. You can also watch it on iOS App or live stream online by clicking here. The Parade will be hosted by NBC Today show's Matt Lauer Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie.
The parade will kick off at 77th Street and Central Park West, and then head to Columbus Circle through Central Park West and turn on 6th avenue and Central Park South. It will continue down 6th ave until 34th street and end up at Macy's Store at Herald Square. If you are looking for the closest subway stations at the starting point, it will be A/C, B lines at the 81st Street stop.
This year's giant balloons include family favorites such as: Buzz Lightyear, Hello Kitty, Spider Man, Ronald McDonald, Pillsbury Doughboy, Pikachu, Smurf, Spongebob and more.
The line-up of performers for the Parade include Kellie Pickler, Ariana Grande, Austin Mahone, Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri, Cher Lloyd, Gavin Degraw, Fifth Harmony, Fall Out Boy, Kristen Chinoweth, Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line and the Duck Dynasty's Robertson Family.
New York authorities are ready to pull the giant balloons from the parade if sustained winds exceed 23 mph that day, because of fears that the balloon handlers won't be able to control them.
"We are closely monitoring the weather as we do each year. On Thanksgiving morning, Macy's works closely with the NYPD, who, based on real time weather data and the official regulations determine if the balloons will fly and at what heights." Macy's spokeswoman Holly Thomas addressed the weather situation.
