The Nexus 5 is believed to be Google's next flagship Android smartphone. Google has announced that the next version of Android will be 4.4 KitKat, not 5.0 Key Lime Pie. According to a new rumor, Google is planning to release the Nexus 5 along with the Android 4.4 KitKat on October 14.

An October launch, as rumored, would be consistent with Google's conventions. Looking at past instances, Google always releases its new products on October. The Nexus 4 was launched with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on October 29, 2012. Similarly the Galaxy Nexus was launched along with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in October 19, 2011.

Rumoured specifications for the Nexus 5 include a Full HD screen either 5in or 5.2in in size, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and a whopping 3GB of RAM. There's also been suggestion it will feature a 16Mp camera made by Nikon. Other sources suggest a smaller 4.5in screen with a 720p resolution.

The Nexus 5 will be Google's fifth-generation flagship, following its team-ups with HTC (Nexus One), Samsung (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus) and LG (Nexus 4). It is suggested that LG is the most likely manufacturer to make the Nexus 5 but Google is also considering other vendors.
