Jodi Arias, 32, is convicted of first-degree murder with aggravating factors; juries are in the final sentencing stage of determining whether she should receive the death penalty or a life-time imprisonment.
Through the help of her friend, Arias posted Wednesday a comment on Twitter, “God’s love is so great that He loves even the proud, the selfish, the arrogant, and the wicked – Dieter F. Uchtdorf,” who is the second counselor of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
According to The Christian Post, Arias has not talked about her faith before, and the tweet marks a seeming change in her attitude. She converted to Mormonism in order to keep her relationship with Travis Alexander, who was a devout convert to the religion.
Her tweeting throughout her murder trial has brought much attention from the public. She now has over 60,000 followers and has mainly used the site to offer her own commentary about the trial.
Arias has maintained that Alexander was abusive throughout their relationship and that she only killed him in self-defense. She is now selling “Survivor” t-shirts in order to promote awareness of domestic violence, and the profits will go to a domestic violence organization chosen by Arias.
In an interview with Fox affiliate KSAZ minutes after the jury reached the guilty verdict of first degree murder last week, Arias said she would rather have the death penalty, which she calls “the ultimate freedom,” than spending a life-time in jail.
The case continued on Thursday, when Alexander’s family members testified of how their lives were torn apart by the murder of their brother. Jury was brought to tears when hearing the testimonies.
“I don’t want these nightmares anymore,” he said. “I don’t want to see my brother’s murderer anymore.”
Arias cried periodically during the testimony and looked away from jurors. She may end up receiving the death penalty.
