Reality-TV king Mark Burnett said on Monday that History Channel's The Bible television miniseries, a 10 hour docudrama that garnered a total of 95 million viewers, will be made into a movie to be released this fall.
The film will be a condensed version of the 10-part miniseries, which will include “recut scenes and extra stuff” from the television mini-series.
“Clearly the big focus is the Resurrection,” Mr. Burnett said, according to New York Post. “Very few people have ever done anything beyond the crucifixion. No one has ever seen the Pentecost before. And the Ascension. And the following trial of Peter and John.”
The Bible was a huge ratings success, drawing 13.1 million viewers from around the world. After closing out its run on the History Channel on Easter, The Bible recently has already broken the record for fastest-selling miniseries on DVD of all time, with 525,000 units sold in the first week.
“A whole year’s projection for DVDs was sold in 6 days,” Burnett said.
“For all those people who rolled their eyes three years ago and said, ‘nobody is going to watch the Bible on TV,’ we are glad they are wrong,” said Mr. Burnett, according to New York Post.
