Former Feng-Shui Master Tony Chan Baptized, Testimony Scrutinized by Public

Former Feng-Shui master Chan Chun-Cheun, who was charged with forgery over a purported will that he claimed as the sole beneficiary of Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum’s one-hundred-billion-dollar inheritance, was baptized on March 5th by Rev. Enoch Lam in Hong Kong.

At the Crossroad Community Baptist Church, Chan then publicly shared his testimony, which ignited heated discussions in Hong Kong. In an interview with Channel J that day, he said he felt very happy after his baptism. He hoped to receive guidance by following God in his upcoming days, and become a joyful person in God.

Chan chose a new name Peter for himself since he is a newly formed man in God. He said he really liked the Bible verse in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!”

In 2007, Chan’s case was widely talked about in Hong Kong. Also, his bold remarks had worried the public. In February 2010, the Supreme Court in Hong Kong announced his defeat – a event that ironically became one of the top three most celebrated news of the year.

In his sharing, he mentioned that the happiness index of the Hong Kong population rose in 2010 because of three main reasons, firstly because of the government’s issuance of $6000, secondly because of the marriage of Prince William, and thirdly because of his ultimate defeat.

“The road of my life has made a connection with God. My past was a lifestyle that God did not find pleasing, and thus I was not able to connect with God. God had planned a path full of trials and tribulations for me to walk through. Along the way, I met God and received salvation…the old has gone, the new is here,” he said.

This Feng Shui guru, who had relied on his eloquence of speech to earn a living, became a Christian today. This caused many people to question whether he was trying to “gain pity”? There were those who question whether his belief in God was sincere, or whether he was using God to “clear his background”.

However, there were those who expressed support for Chan, and many who posted videos of his testimony and words on Facebook.

Pastor Peter Ho Chi-dik posted his heartfelt remarks on his own Facebook page, saying: “I have seen Mr. Tony Chan sharing his testimony of his own salvation on Facebook, and have seen his baptism to join the Christian family. Maybe many people still question in their hearts: is this true or false? I have also occasionally heard brothers and sisters questioning.”

“Of course, the Bible warns us saying: ‘You only need a doctor when you are sick.’ Many people despised his actions in the past on varying levels. He really needed the salvation of Jesus Christ. Let us hope he will continue to be fulfilled in the word of God, and to gain from God’s blessings and knowledge," he said.

Ho also expressed, “However, faith is a hard lesson to learn, especially since we are taught from a very young age by our parents to “watch out for people”, because “knowing someone on the surface does not mean knowing the heart”. Being cautious is important, and one should be cautious. On the faith road, do we not believe that followers are ‘blessed sinners’? Sin, in the Bible, is neither small nor big, sin is sin. However, due to the influence of the present day worldly perspectives, we still hold doubt when certain people receive Jesus Christ, which is inevitable. Only, my heart ultimately believes that the final judgment comes from the “righteous God”, so why worry?”

Chan will stand trial on April 22 while facing claims of more than HK$430 million in unpaid taxes and legal costs.
