KIEV, Ukraine (INS)— It may still be winter, but a Spring of Life is blooming in Ukraine! Intercede International partner Father’s House—an indigenous Christian ministry based in Kiev, Ukraine—has started a new crisis centre with that name for street children and a help line for children in distress.
“To provide greater assistance for children on the streets, the department plans to open a crisis centre,” reported Father’s House in a recent Field Report sent to intercede. “This new ministry will be called The Spring of Life. It will offer a place where children may be able to receive clean clothes, a hot lunch, counselling and the possibility of spending the night in a clean, warm, safe bed.
“The Centre will provide legal advice, hold training programs, providing vocational training in an auto-repair shop and welding shops as well as the arranging of trips and hikes. At this centre, as with all of the aspects of our ministry, great attention will be given to the spiritual condition of children who visit.”
The ministry has now established a telephone line that children may call at any time and receive answers to important problems of life as well as assistance in times of crisis. This ministry also offers advice to parents or close relatives who are in a distressful situation with their children. In some cases the counsellor can advise colleagues who work on the streets to lend assistance.
Through its ministries to street children, Father’s House has seen scores of success stories. “Over the years many young people have indeed had their lives changed by the power of Jesus Christ—whom they met in the course of their interaction with our total ministry,” reports Father’s House. “Today, these young people are beginning productive lives. Some are working regular jobs, some are in university and others are married and raising their own children in the nurture and love of the Lord. This began with their introduction to Christ through the street ministry department.”
