This weekend is the Lunar Chinese New Year. NBA basketball star Jeremy Lin wished his fans a happy Year of the Snake through his Facebook page. Fans responded, wishing him smooth games. Lin posted a picture that had him holding a card with the Lunar New Year congratulatory remarks in Chinese characters.
On February 23rd, the Houston Rockets will be playing the Washington Wizards. That day coincides with Lantern Festival, which is another Chinese traditional holiday. Chinese-Americans have purchased tickets in groups, expressing their support with great enthusiasm.
Earlier this month, the documentary “Linsanity” was featured at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was well-received. Lin said that he hopes this film can influence many people, helping to break down racism and inspire many youths with basketball dream to pursue it courageously.
According to World Journal, Lin will formally launch the Jeremy Lin Foundation on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, with the purpose of fundraising for disadvantaged Asian-American groups. Lin and his Rockets’ teammates will be present at the opening ceremony of “Making a Difference” (MAD).
