Immediately after the Japan 3/11 Disaster took place last year, Christian Relief, Assistance, Support and Hope CRASH Japan sent in teams to engage in the search and rescue efforts. While a year has gone by, volunteers from all around the world are still in the disaster zone helping the disaster victims with the reconstruction.
To commemorate the one year anniversary of the 2011 Japan Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, CRASH Japan has produced a video clip reflecting on the past year’s disaster relief efforts in order to offer their gratitude to those from around the world who has shown concern and support.
The film introduced CRASH Japan mobilizing 153 volunteers just 48 hours after the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami struck, setting up a temporary office within a day, assisting the local Japanese churches in disaster relief efforts, and bringing care and hope to the victims. In this past year, the organization has setup their central command office in Tokyo and five base camps in the cities of Hitachi, Nasu, Sendai, Ichinoseki, and Tono. In total, 2,388 volunteers have participated in the rescue and disaster relief efforts to date, 164 tons of emergency supplies have been distributed, and people from 83 countries have been able to directly assist the victims through the organization.
Today, the majority of the victims of the Japan earthquake are still living inside of the temporary wooden houses, so they still need continuous support in order to reconstruct their homes and restore their normal lives. Yet, the Japanese have learned the truth meaning of friendship in the midst of the 3/11 earthquake. The loving support from all around the world has given them courage to continue to live on; from the bottom of their hearts, they give thanks.
