More than 450,000 individuals and churches have joined an initiative to pray for the United States on July 4.
Participants of Call2Fall’s Independence Day prayer agreed to fall on their knees in humility and repent as they seek God to forgive their sins and heal their land.
The name Call2Fall is taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
“America was birthed by the agonizing prayers of men and women who longed for a land where a God-fearing people could enjoy freedom in their homes, churches, businesses, schools….,” reads the email newsletter by Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins on Friday, which urges supporters to join the Call2Fall initiative. “Today, all is in jeopardy. We must pray as never before.”
Call2Fall was launched last year by Family Research Council to focus on the growing spiritual and moral problems in the country. The Call2Fall initiative urges Christians to declare their “dependence” on God.
Perkins highlighted that America’s founders were motivated by faith and acknowledged God as the author of our “unalienable rights.”
“Our Republic … was not just the fruit of brilliant statesmanship or even the shed blood of patriots, but the grace of God,” he wrote.
Churches participating in the prayer event will simply set aside time during worship on Sunday when congregants can get on their knees and plead with God “to reshape our lives, renew our land, and send times of refreshing.”
Some of the organizations supporting the July 4 prayer effort include the National Day of Prayer Task Force and Awakening America.
