On Saturday, September 20, Red Bank Community Church in Red Bank, NJ (USA)held its “China Challenge” art exhibit – completing the first stage of its initiative to support 1000 pastors serving China’s underground Church.
The exhibit featured 418 CD-sized works of art submitted by artists, children, and concerned Christians from all over the world. These works of art represented 418 contributions of US$20 made by either the artist or by someone sponsoring the artist’s work. That US$20 will provide a Chinese pastor with a support package including a Bible, some teaching materials, and a financial love-offering. The artists also wrote a personal note of encouragement to a pastor on the back of each work of art.
At the end of the exhibit, all of the artworks were shipped to Hong Kong – where they will be exhibited before being included in the support packages and sent to the pastors.
The “China Challenge” project was the brain-child of Rev. Gerda Liebmann, who co-founded Red Bank Community Church two years ago with her husband, Rev. Lenny Liebmann.
“When the Holy Spirit first inspired me to start this project, I only thought it would be a good way of soliciting support for those who serve Christ by bringing the good news of His salvation to the people of China,” said Rev. Liebmann. “But the project has also raised awareness of the struggle of the Chinese Church – and it has connected our congregation to many others who share our concern for our brethren overseas.”
The exhibit was also attended by many unchurched people, who were previously unaware of the persecution of Christians in China.
Red Bank Community Church is working closely with Revival Chinese Ministries International to solicit contributions, exhibit the artwork, and deliver the packages to the pastors.
