VANCOUVER - For three consecutive days, influential Chinese Christian evangelists Ting W. Lee preached at a mandarin evangelism conference held at the North America Faith Chinese Baptist Church beginning on the night of Sept. 12.

With the message title of “The Accomplishment of the Cross”, Lee explained the redemptive life of Jesus Christ shown upon the cross, which fulfilled God’s will in sending him to save the sinners.

There is a famous Chinese saying that “Man Can Conquer Nature”, which means the total reliance on oneself to achieve everything. Just like any other students who studied overseas, Lee obtained his degrees through hard work and found an ideal profession in the United States. Since he achieved many of his goals and ideals, Lee felt that there is nothing that a man cannot achieve.

Despite his achievements, Lee said that he experienced the Holy Spirit twice, where he felt that man cannot but God can. He said that the first time was when he first converted to Christianity, and the second time was when he was a minister. Because of these experiences, he gave up his job and traveled to over 36 countries until now to preach the gospel.

In his sermon, Lee explicated on the last words of Jesus as recorded in John 19:30, “It is finished.” He said that these last words symbolizing the reaching the goal and completing all of the work. The blood of Jesus covered all of our sins; God’s son proclaimed to the world that he has accomplished the purpose for his coming into this world; that was not a shout of failure, but it was a shout of absolute victory.

Furthermore, since man committed sin and the heart was filled with darkness, but God cannot dwell together with darkness, so he sent the Lord Jesus to come into this world and for the sake of love being punished for our sins. Until today, God is still calling us, hoping that we can accept him and receive the eternal hope. Jesus came to this world and set an example for us; at the last supper, he lowered himself and washed the feet of the disciples. Although this job is considered the lowest form of service, Jesus loved his disciples until the very end.

Today, Jesus has given us this gift of eternal life. From the moment that we believe in him till we meet the Lord, he will always watch over us.

Lastly, Lee called for those who wanted to follow God and to be together with the Lord forever to pray together. The night concluded with benedictions given by Rev. Kim, former vice president of Hong Kong University.
