HONG KONG - More than 180 ministers and seminary students representing Hong Kong's denominations attended the annual pastoral conference at Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The event marks the first time the Chinese Protestant church has attempted to research pastoral ministry systematically, organizers say.

Over 20 pastors and theological professors will also be present for the seminar to give speeches about pastoral ministry from six different perspectives – including those that are biblical, theological, historical and ministerial.

The president of the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, Rev. Prof. Lung Kwong Lo, and director of Christian Times, Lee Kam Hung, will give special speeches.

Prominent Taiwanese theologian, Rev. Lien Hwa Chou, will lead talks on pastoral ministry from the biblical, theological perspective and cultural-Chinese perspective.

The event comes shortly after Dr. Simon Kwan, assoc. professor with the Chung Chi, released a landmark mid-term research paper, “Effectiveness of Local Church Shepherds,” which analyzed 50 years of discipleship in western churches.

According to Kwan, who will attend the conference, discipleship in Chinese churches still has a long way to go.

The gathering will start Sept. 19 thru 20 at Chinese University’s Divinity School of Chung Chi College.
