June 6 marks the Primary Election Day of the State of California, Christian groups urge all voters cast their vote in an effort to change the Democrat-dominated state, which has introduced many liberal policies threatening the ethical morality of the California society.
Local voters are expected to cast ballots for candidates for Congress, governor, 80th District California Assembly, sheriff, a host of other statewide and county offices and two ballot initiatives today.
According to a survey released by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) in late May, a majority of Californians (57%) think the state is headed in the wrong direction. State residents are far more likely to disapprove than to approve of the job performance of the governor (52% disapprove, 36% approve) and state legislature (54% disapprove, 26% approve).
"California voters seem very indecisive at the moment," says PPIC survey director Mark Baldassare. "But it’s not because they are uninformed; they are simply uncertain about the type of leadership they want for the state."
The existing Republican governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger now faces the challenges of the two likely Democratic rivals- state Controller Steve Westly and state Treasurer Phil Angelides- while he is seeking to renew his mandate. Republican and Democratic are dividing along their stances on many moral issues.
California has been known for its liberal policies, especially the legalization of same-sex marriage. Many pro-family groups and Christian organizations based in California are therefore trying to provide many guidelines and resources for the voters so that they can know each candidate’s standpoints surrounding family and life.
According to the California Christian Coalition, Schwarzenegger supports parental notification before abortion and marriage between one man and one woman only. In contrast, Westly and Angelides are both supporters of abortion and gay marriage.
Amid the heated debate over the pro-homosexual education bill SB 1473, which will ban on all negative messages about transsexuality, cross-dressing, bisexuality, and homosexuality or same-sex marriage on instructional materials, textbooks and school-sponsored activities, Schwarzenegger reportedly will veto SB 1437. Pro-family groups and conservative Christians have welcomed his move.
Currently, as the AFP reported, Republican governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger has a slim lead over likely Democratic.
"In a hypothetical Schwarzenegger-versus-Westly fall pairing, the governor holds a slim two-point lead, 44 percent to 42 percent, over Westly. In a Schwarzenegger-Angelides pairing, the governor's lead is seven points, 46 percent to 39 percent," according to a survey by The Field Poll.
A record low 34 percent of California's 15.6 million eligible voters are expected to cast ballots in today's statewide election, the San Francisco Chronicles reported. Therefore, each vote will be even making more difference in the election.
The California Family Council (CFC) calls on prayers for the godly Californians of faith to "go to the polls on June 6, cast their votes wisely, and elect state and local leadership that reflects and values our godly heritage" on the June’s prayer letter. It also requests for prayers for committees in the California Legislature that "legislators will give fair and just consideration to the ideas and issues – not be driven by political expediency."
