HONG KONG- A famous Christian scholar in Hong Kong sternly rejects the messages that conveyed in the controversial gay-themed movie ‘Brokeback Mountain’, calling it a threat to culture and the divine nature of life.

Dr. Thomas Leung, founder and president of the Culture Regeneration Research Society (CRRS), was presented at the special forum on "Brokeback Mountain" organized by the largest Hong Kong-based Christian media group the Media Evangelism Limited at the Royal Plaza Hotel last Sunday.

While "Brokeback Mountain" is regarded as a mirror of post-modernism, as an expert in Chinese culture and philosophy, Leung disagreed with the idea. He criticized the movie for promoting "monism" rather than "mosaic culture."

"Why the movie is called ‘brokeback’? Because it breaks our culture and the divine nature of life. ‘Brokeback’ saddens your entire life!" Leung raised the ironic question.

Leung said the movie has described all the negative sides of homosexuality. For example, the affairs and physical relationship between the two main characters on Brokeback Mountain has become a heavy burden to their lives. In addition, they are being cursed for their families are destroyed by their indulgence in the physical desires.

"Many people have been misguided by Lee Ang," said Leung.

Instead of revealing a "mosaic culture", Leung commented that the movie only showed the life of homosexuals one-sidedly. In post-modernism, there is no common value behind the "mosaic culture," and many people are confused. As a result, monism dominates the entire culture and jeopardizes the freedom of speech.

Speaking on "mosaic culture" in post-modernism, Leung said it is similar to the biblical teaching that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him." All ideas should be well-connected. Homosexual culture should never dominate and destroy the freedom of speech.

Leung is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and he earned his doctoral degree in Chinese philosophy at Hawaii University. Leung has a strong sense of commission to change the mother nation China and to open itself for the gospel.
