WASHINGTON -- Vice President Dick Cheney said today, March 02, he supports President Bush’s call for constitutional amendment banning gay marriage even though one of his daughters is lesbian.
Previously, up until just a month ago since the year 2000 campaign, Cheney’s stance had been more toward leaving the issue of homosexual marriage up to the states. However now he is strongly supportive of President Bush.
"The president's taken the clear position that he supports a constitutional amendment," Cheney said in an interview with MSNBC television. "I support him."
The public has its focus on Cheney’s lesbian daughter, Mary Cheney, who is involved in the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign but Cheney declined to discuss her.
"I absolutely love my daughters very much, both of them, and care very deeply for them," Cheney said in an MSNBC interview.
"One of the most unpleasant aspects of this business is the extent of which private lives are intruded upon when these kinds of issues come up," he said. "I really have always considered my private — my daughters' lives private and I think that's the way it ought to remain."
