The fifth US Court of Appeals will hear Norma McCorvey’s case to overturn Roe v. Wade. The hearing date for her Rule 60 Motion, which allows her to petition a court to overturn its decision if new facts relevant to the lawsuit are presented, reported by life news, is set for March 2.
While it had been previously decided to hear oral arguments in this case, recent news show that this order was declined. With thousands of pages of signed affidavits from women whose abortions have caused them harm, Judges Edith Holland Jones, Edward Prado, and Jacques L. Wiener will rule the motion based on these written documents.
“We are surprised at this turn of events, but this has been, and will be, an amazing and unusual case until it reaches and is ultimately decided by the United States Supreme Court,” said Allan Parker, McCorvey’s attorney and CEO of The Justice Foundation in Texas.
The Justice Foundation, which is a pro-life nonprofit law firm, will be handling this case for McCorvey. The Foundation asks for prayer and fasting to prepare for this hearing.
After 30 years have passed since the ruling of Roe v. Wade, McCorvey stated, “I deeply regret the damage my original case caused women.” “I want the Supreme Court to examine the evidence and have a spirit of justice for women and children.”
Parker said, “She lives for the day that Roe v. Wade will be reversed.” “She hopes to return to the political process so the people can decide for themselves whether abortions should be banned or partially restricted or allowed.”
Having converted to Christianity in the mid-1990s, McCorvey “has come to recognize that abortion hurts women rather than helps women,” said Bereit, a member of an anti-abortion group. “It’s a glimmer of hope…It’s a real strong testimony.”
