The American Bible Society in New York, New York opened their “Threads of Faith: Recent Works from the Women of Color Quilters Network” exhibition, Jan. 23. The 53 quilts on display, made by 33 members of the Women of Color Quilters Network, examine the crucial role of faith in the Black-American history.
“They record personal histories, make political statements, celebrate family values, and reflect the role of faith and Christian tradition in shared history, regardless of personal religious belief,” the ABS website stated.
The quilts are divided into five thematic categories: biblical narratives, women and family, prayers and spiritual mediations, worship through the arts, and African American experiences.
