LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (AP) — The Rev. Albert Mohler Jr., an outspoken evangelical leader and president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, was recovering in intensive care from blood clots in his lungs, the seminary said.
Mohler, 47, had been hospitalized with stomach pain Dec. 27 and underwent surgery at Baptist East Hospital to remove scar tissue from a 1980s operation. He was to have been released after a few days, but the clots developed earlier this week.
Russell Moore, a seminary administrator, wrote on Mohler's website Friday night that Mohler's condition was improving. A hospital spokesman said Saturday that continued to be the case.
"While his situation is still very serious, it seems that the doctors have his treatment well underway and he is recuperating well," Moore wrote.
Mohler has been the seminary's president for 14 years. He also hosts a radio program carried by about 60 stations across America that focuses on moral, political and cultural issues from an evangelical Christian perspective.
