Christians worldwide are anticipating the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost- 50 days after Easter- on June 4, which coincides with the second Global Day of Prayer (GDOP).
Founded in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2001, GDOP is an annual 101-day process. GDOP gives local church leaders a vision of transformation and multiplication by using the book of Acts and a "10.1.90" model.
Just as the disciples prayed for ten days between the Ascension and Pentecost recorded in Acts 1, GDOP is preceded by ten days of intercession and fasting from May 25- June 3 for this year. After the 10 days, a one-day public-venue praying will be hosted on June 4 to witness the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, which gives way to "Ninety Days of Blessing". The 90 days will be a period when the Church experienced great transformation through passionate evangelism outreach.
To date, eight hundred cities in India are mobilizing; one hundred cities and the national stadium in Jakarta, India are organizing; churches in Singapore have secured their national stadium; and the sports stadium in Nairobi, Kenya and the Cave Church in Cairo, Egypt will connect by satellite. Houston, Texas, USA reports a coalition of five hundred churches at work, and Hong Kong’s coalition exceeds three hundred ministries.
On the Great Commission Center International (GCCI) website, the chairman and leading Chinese evangelical Rev. Thomas Wang Tuesday has invited Chinese churches to participate in the upcoming second GDOP.
Back to 2005 in Hong Kong, 20,000 Christians gathered at the Outdoor Sports Stadium and pray for the country.
