The Houston-based Light and Salt Association (L&SA) will be holding their annual fundraiser on Dec. 3 in order to continue their mission and to support new projects in 2006.

The fundraiser is expected to bring over five hundred participants from about 50 churches and organizations in the Houston area to the Overseas Chinese Community Center. Right now, representatives from at least fifteen churches are actively working with L&SA in preparations.

The fundraiser is also in appreciation of those who have actively participated in the association's mission to help people in the Chinese community and to lead them to Christ.

In late Aug., Hurricane Katrina swept through the Gulf Coast, devastating the lives of thousands of people, inundating homes and displacing millions, with damages estimated in the billions.

L&SA was able to coordinate a Hurricane Katrina relief fund, along with local Christians, Chinese Churches, and Chinese associations in Houston. Support came, not only from Houston, but from as far as Virginia, Illinois, California, and some Asian regions. The donations were then distributed to people, students, and churches in Louisiana and Mississippi, respectively.

"We are so blessed by those people who care for the need of the community and people," L&SA said in a letter sent out to participants and supporters.

Every year in Nov., since its founding in 1997, L&SA participates with local Chinese churches and the Baptist Joy Center in sponsoring a Winter Clothing Drive, among many other projects, for those in the Northeast part of Houston. By rallying support from Chinese churches, Christians are able to respond to the needs of the community across racial lines.

Their most recent endeavor, in collaboration with Houston Chinese Pastors Prayer Meeting, is to establish the "Chinese Gospel Broadcast Network," a radio station that will be used to lead people to Christ through Christian programs that will target a Chinese audience.

"We are actively proceeding with plans and hoping to start broadcasting by year 2006, Lord willing," L&SA said.
