Spiritual Awakening Mission (SAM) is currently gathering volunteers from the English Ministry to embark on short term mission trips to China this summer.
Beginning in July, SAM plans to send off five volunteers to Dandong, China for the duration of a month. The medical mission NGO will also be dispatching a team of 20 people to Jiban for the first couple of weeks of July.
Dandong city is located in Southeast Liaoning prov. at the mouth of the Yalu River, opposite Korea. The port is connected by rail with Shenyang and with Sinuiju in North Korea.
Mission teams consist of doctors, herbalists, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and other volunteers who can be easily trained in the medical mission field due to advanced technology in medicine.
SAM is also preparing for next year's mission trip in 2006 as they plan to have 30 American volunteers.
Currently, SAM is planning and organizing for the construction of a new pharmaceutical factory in Dandong. Many pregnant women are malnourished and thus either have miscarriages or give birth to premature and frail babies. With such serious conditions seen among the poor population, the pharmaceutical factory will serve to provide the necessary vitamins and nutritional supplements needed for healthy living. SAM plans to produce two million nutritional tablets to deliver to the people in North Korea and China.
"Please pray that the Lord's blessings will be upon our food/pharmaceutical manufacturing plant ... that [it] may be established successfully in order that the devastated North Korean people as well as the local Chinese citizens would benefit," stated SAM.
Plans are also underway to enlarge the Shen Yang Love Hospital in China. Along with an expansion, the hospital will be westernized and modernized and supplied with more staff workers and medical tools. The mayor of Shimyang will be holding a conference with embassy leaders from America, Korea, Japan, and Germany to discuss it in further detail.
As religious persecution in China becomes more severe, SAM asks for prayers as it works to aid the suffering.
