Christian Relief Organization in Disaster Areas

Relief organizations have been working day and night the disaster-stricken coastal areas of Sri Lanka, Thailand, India and Indonesia.

Relief organizations have been working day and night the disaster-stricken coastal areas of Sri Lanka, Thailand, India and Indonesia. Many homes and villages were completely destroyed. Millions of people are without food, water and shelter. Relief organizations are of great necessity.

Compassion International Organization has programs in India, Thailand, and Indonesia. They have spent last week to reach families in their programs. Like many other agencies, they are sending relief funds to help victims in southern Asia and have also created a relief fund called Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund to help disaster victims. Through the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund, they can offer immediate relief aid to affected areas. They are pledging $375,000 to Aceh in indonesia, where the disaster affected the most. The tsunami devastated the coastal areas. Thus, they are delivering food, clean water, and medical care to orphaned children especially. They are providing two meals a day, emergency shelter construction, and distribution of basic household and hygiene kits. Moreover, they are counseling to specific families in crisis.

Food for the Hungry is pledging $3 million to disaster areas in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and India. They distributed food, water, medical supplies, clothing, candles and blankets. And they will expand and continue over the next days and weeks to disaster families. In India, they are working with the local Evangelical Fellowship of India¡¯s Committee on Relief (EFICOR) and Evangelical Social Action Forum (ESAF). They have sent $24,000 to local partners in the first 24 hours after the disaster. In Indonesia, they are working with Church of the Holy Christ Indonesia.

Christian Aid Mission is responding to deliver relief to affected areas by the tsunami. They have sent many volunteers to the disaster areas. And they are supporting 32 ministries in Thailand and Indonesia.

Mercy Ship is a global charity. They are working with an international aid organization in Sri Lanka. It also expected in relief efforts to the devastated area in southern Asia.

Even though many organizations have taken the initiative and first step in alleviating the crisis, much work such as reconstruction will soon begin.
