The Disneyland Resort has just given Royal Family Kids’ Camp, Inc. a $10,000 grant. It was all part of the Resort’s “A Dream is a Wish,” a whirlwind tour throughout Orange County to give out $400,000 in Community Service Awards to 30 Organizations.
The amount of the grant Royal Family Kids’ Camps, Inc. received was secret until the traveling caravan arrived at the location. Members of the judging committee were led by Minnie and Mickey Mouse dressed in classic attire in honor of Disneyland® Park’s upcoming 50th anniversary.
“We are extremely honored and sincerely appreciate Disney’s acknowledgement of our efforts to help abused and neglected children by creating a week of positive memories that can open their eyes to the fact that their dreams can come true,” said Wayne Tesch, as he and his wife Diane, Co-Founders of RFKC, Inc. accepted this generous grant.
The Royal Family Kids’ Camps Inc is the nation’s leading network of camps for abused, neglected and abandoned children. The grant will go towards serving more children in the Southern California foster care/social service system.
In the summer of 2004, about 500 children in Southern California, ages 7 – 11 who are in the system, experienced a week of “oasis” where they were deeply loved, affirmed and encouraged by wholesome, caring adults. RFKC prepares churches to move the congregation from the pews into their community where they make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children.
The RFKC model requires one adult counselor for every two campers, which is a ratio almost unheard of in any other camping program. The campers hear Bible stories, and the drama and songs reinforce the fact that God loves them.
They receive a duffel bag with a children’s Bible, cassette of the songs they learn, and an activity book based upon the Bible stories—all things that remind them throughout the year how special they are to God.
Since 1957, when Walt Disney established the Community Service Awards, over $8.6 million has been presented to thousands of area organizations that make a difference in the county through selfless works.
