Each year, Adventures In Missions (AIM) partners with other churches to develop a global network of missions training centers to produce national missionaries to realize the Great Commission that God has given to them. Its short term missions trips have been a great success since the establishment of the ministry in 1989.
This year, India is chosen as one of the locations for AIM missions training centers. The program lasts 3 months which began on Sept. 21 and ends on Dec. 14. Most participants are college-aged young adults.
In one of her reports for the mission center, Jenni Morrison, Team Leader in India, wrote, “On Thursday, Oct 14, half the team went to a different leper colony. As we have come to expect, it was a bit chaotic. We started out with about 30 kids in a tiny church building and ended up with nearly 100.”
She continued, “Saturday...This is a day we will not soon forget. In the evening we met up with some of the apartment kids to go out to Pizza Hut and see a movie called "Bride and Prejudice" Sunday, we went to a church about 1 hr. and 45 min. away. No matter how we try to plan for our programs there is always something different that happens. The church body consisted of 75% kids, which was fine with us, but not what we prepared for. It turned out great anyway and the Lord really blessed it. Garrett had everyone laughing when he told a story about the time he was little and got a thorn in his booty and amazingly related it to how sin affects our lives.”
Morrison is expected to return on Dec. 15, along with her teammates.
As expected, traveling with AIM for mission training can be exciting and advantageous. Through the short-term missions program, participants will learn how to mobilize themselves to embrace the great commission as a central purpose in life.
For participants, the mission experience should result in a daily prayer life, increase in tithes to missions, an active participation in community ministry, and an advocacy for missions within the body of Christ with a desire to return to the mission field.
