Prayer Walk Seeks to Unite Christians in Prayers

The Assemblies of God launched a nationwide effort to unite Christians from every denomination to prayer for the upcoming elections; the days of prayer have been scheduled for October 22 and 23, 2004.

The goal of the Prayer Walk is to have Christians to pray together for the same topic at the same time. Cleatis Hoskins of A/G explained that the Holy Spirit’s vision is much larger than people think and that if Christians want to ask God for something, it is much better for all Christians to pray together at the same time to show God their sincerities.

Hoskins suggested that the Lord’s Prayer should be used at the Prayer Walk. In addition, she said she believes God has given Christians a clear biblical direction: To pray for governmental authority (1 Timothy 2:1), to understand that authority was established by God (Romans 13) and to know that the American citizen has been given, by that authority, the privilege and responsibility to vote.

A/G General Superintendent Thomas Trask said the Prayer Walk is an outstanding idea because he believes that it is a God-given responsibility to pray for the nation’s leaders.

Said Trask: "Not only do I believe that God will honor this effort as well as give others a visible declaration of Christians' belief in the power of prayer, I believe the Prayer Walk will also help open doors between denominations to working together in the future to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in their communities."
