Bruce Wilkinson, author of “The Prayer of Jabez,” spoke at the rally at Somhlolo National Stadium on July 16. Ten thousand children from 184 high schools from all over Swaziland that participated in the “Beat the Drum” sexual abstinence program gathered to celebrate abstinence and also to mark the end of the Swaziland Dream for Africa Campaign of 2004.
Junior Singo, Miss Swaziland, the Prime Minister in place of Her Majesty Indlovukaz, and the Minister of Education also addressed the crowd.
Wilkinson was granted an open door to minister by many governmental leaders in sub-Sahara Africa, who face a big problem on their hands: nearly 40% of the population is infected with the AIDS virus.
He invitation to Adventures in Mission to participate in the campaign resulted in over two hundred college students from Dallas Baptist University and eight hundred other American, Swazi, and African college students to join the team which aimed at educating Swaziland students on AIDS and a biblically-based view on abstinence in order to prevent the disease from spreading.
The college students were organized into teams of ten, 3-4 American students with 6-7 Africans, and visited a high school each week for three weeks.
The Swazi model will hopefully be replicated in Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, and parts of South Africa.
