The Fellowship of Christian Athletes from Auburn University recently visited Camp ASCCA (Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults), created to help children and adults with disabilities achieve equality, dignity, and maximum independence, to answer questions about college football and give advice to disabled kids.
Jim Hardy, a member of the Camp’s Board of Directors has for the past four years invited Auburn athletes to speak to camp participants.
College football players Thomas Anderson, Ben Grubbs, Ronnie Brown, Rich Trucks, Danny Lindsey and Jeremy Ingle, all FCA members, accepted the honor to speak to the kids.
"I'm trying to give back to the kids," Hardy told The Alexander City Outlook. "Give them a chance to meet and greet some of these players like Ronnie Brown and Ingle."
The Alexander City Outlook also reported sports camp director Jeff Veres saying the athletes talked "about overcoming adversity."
The speakers tackled questions such as how they managed school and practice or why one didn’t go directly into professional football.
Lindsey said, "We try to do as much as we can."
