WASHINGTON, D.C.—During the second morning of Family Research Council’s annual briefing (FRC), Massachusetts Rep. Phillip Travis (D) received FRC’s most prestigious award, the “Family, Faith and Freedom Award,” for his role in protecting marriage.
Travis introduced an amendment a year prior to the Goodridge decision that would direct the public policy of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to protect marriage, said FRC’s Web site. He was honored for “his commitment to Christ, principles uncompromised for personal or political gain, and a dedication to protect the traditional family.”
The award was presented by President of FRC Tony Perkins who later engaged in discussion on the present state of America’s culture joined by pro-family leaders and legislators Dr James Dobson of Focus on the Family, Dr. Ralph Reed, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX), Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) and FOX News' Brit Hume.
Gary Bauer, Chairman of the Campaign For Working Families, spoke on two kinds of wars that Americans face – “the war on terror” and “the war on our culture.” Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly gave a history lesson of how the Equal Rights Amendment was defeated.
Saturday will mark the last day of the briefing.
