On March 19-20, Christian Youth Pastors Josh Dowell and Ron Luce will continue their joint call for the Cross Culture Revolution at an Acquire The Fire event dubbed, “The Power of One,” at The Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. The plan of action was formulated last year after the disappointing results of survey comparing the behavior of youth who described themselves as Christians and those who do not.
“Incredible as it may seem, ‘accepting Christ’ and making a profession of faith makes little to no difference in a young person’s attitudes and behaviors. The majority of our churched young people are adopting ‘a Christianity’ but it is not true Christianity,” said McDowell and Luce in a joint statement.
The survey asked the teens whether they had done the following within the last 12 months prior to taking the survey: cheated on a test, lied to a teacher, lied to a parent, would physically hurt someone when angered, and was satisfied with their ethics and character. Percentage of Christian youth who committed the above-mentioned acts were within a few percentage difference than youth who were not Christian.
Ninety-eight percent of youth ministers and pastors agreed with the statistics, according to a survey by McDowell.
Luce is also the founder of Teen Mania Ministries in 1986, which has reached out to over 1.2 million youth including those who attend the annual Acquire the Fire events. The events provide a “strategic initiative to equip the church to raise up a generation of sacrificial and passionate followers of Christ,” according to a statement.
Contemporary Christian artists, top guest speakers and a variety of multimedia presentations make the worship experience. This year, bands include Seven Places and Grits.
Josh McDowell began his ministry to youth in 1964 traveling for Campus Crusade for Christ International. He has traveled to more than 60 countries and written over 50 books. His recent written material includes “More Than a Carpenter”, a book about the life of Jesus, which is being distributed nationwide as a resource tool in response to the recent release of “The Passion of the Christ.”
Luce and McDowell released their book “The CrossCulture Revolution” released last fall.
