On February 27, 2004, Alec Hill, the President of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, announced the appointment of Jim Tebbe as an InterVarsity Vice President and Director of Missions, effective March 1, 2004. Dr. Tebbe served InterVarsity as the director of Urbana 03, InterVarsity's triennial mission convention during last December at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Tebbe was the former international director of Interserve, an international and interdenominational fellowship ministering throughout South and Central Asia and the Middle East. He had lead churches in Pakistan and Bangladesh before joining the Christian Study Center in Pakistan, a resource for the Christian churches in that country in the areas of the culture and religion of Islam.
"My life is missions," said Dr. Tebbe, "and I am delighted to be a part of awakening students to proclaim God's kingdom."
Tebbe received his undergraduate education from Indiana University, where he was the president of the university chapter of InterVarsity. He also studied for his M.Div. from Gordon Conwell Seminary, MA in Near Eastern Studies/Islamics from Princeton, and a Ph.D. from St. John's College in Nottingham, England.
Regarding the new appointment, Dr. Hill stated, "it is imperative that we have a leader with a heart for the world and a deel love of learning, especially about the worldwide mission of the church."
Tebbe currently works with his wife Beth, in Madison, Wisconsin where the stated-based IV headquarter is located.
