Compassion's Children Outreach Waiting to be Featured on Documentary

Compassion International will be featured on a documentary program, Voices of Vision, that will air on public television stations throughout the United States starting February 8. Titled as “American Sponsorship: Saving the Children of the World,” the documentary will be shown through PBS station focusing on its outreach to children in Ecuador and the efforts of Compassion staff to give them hope.

"Compassion International is certainly one of the best examples we could find of nonprofits that are making a significant difference in cities around the world," said Peggy Zapple, Voices of Vision managing editor. "We were pleased to profile the important work they are doing to help hurting children."

Compassion addresses the main issues concerning suffering children around the world. It focuses on the issues such as children in Africa’s who are suffering from AIDS (number amounts to 12.6 million) and famine, and those who are involved in the sex trade in Thailand.

Compassion's work in Ecuador serves more than 30,000 children, their families and their communities by providing health care, hygiene training, education, meals, vocational programs and spiritual training through local churches.

"Every child deserves education, access to health care, spiritual training and nutrition through the entire course of their childhood. We give mothers help with nutrition and instruction on how to care for a child even before it's born," said Lician Segura, project director in Guayaquil, Ecuador. "Children in Guayaquil often have problems with malnutrition, infections, bronchitis and parasites."

"Since 1952, Compassion has been working to make a difference in the lives of children around the world," said David Dahlin, chief operating officer of Compassion International, "Every child is precious and every child deserves an opportunity to succeed. We are in the business of giving children hope and a future. Many of these children defy all odds and grow up to become leaders that change their families, their communities and even their countries."
