Holland, MI -- Core City Ministries in Holland, Michigan will commemorate the King holiday Saturday with its fourth annual unity celebration at Lakeshore Vineyard Christian Fellowship. The theme of the celebration is "Remembering the Dream and Making it Our Own." Everyone in the community is invited to join the event.
Although King’s birthday is on Monday, local organizations have already started holding events in honor of him.
Wayne Coleman, executive director of Core City Ministries said Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a time to remember a man and his vision:
"Dr. King's vision was a united community," Coleman said. "He believed everyone was created equal and we want to celebrate this equality."
Coleman wishes to resolve the problems that have split relationships among different races in the community through this event. He will be focusing on the faith-based community to change race relations believing in the power of gospel.
"There are still things going on in the community," Coleman said. "We need to celebrate Dr. King's vision of equality."
The Lakeshore Fellowship celebration will include a performance by the Maple Avenue Ministries Choir, the announcement of the Holland Juneteenth Queen and remarks by Coleman.
